Xbox Game Pass Getting One Of The Most-Anticipated Sequels Of All-Time

March isn’t even over yet, but Xbox Game Pass subscribers have been given a glimpse at one of the upcoming titles releasing later this year. It also happens to be one of the most-anticipated sequels ever, so members should definitely keep this one on their radar. Right now, it looks like it’ll be added to Game Pass in May.
Over on Reddit, Game Pass subscribers weighed in on a variety of factors, from getting the news so early to speculation on what the game may have in store. The sequel in question is Subnautica 2, which will land on Game Pass in early access starting in May 2026. More details were revealed by True Achievements.
Xbox Game Pass’ First Game For May 2026 Is A Big One
The first Subnautica game was well received. ScreenRant’s own review of Subnautica in 2018 praised its survival gameplay and its ability to build tension. In the time since it launched, the first Subnautica has become a modern classic in the survival genre, and understandably, expectations are high for its sequel.
Details are still a bit scarce, but it looks like Subnautica 2 will come to Xbox and PC in early access in May, although a specific release date has not been given yet. Game Pass members will be given a chance to preview the game once early access begins, and while no specific tiers were given yet, presumably this will be for Ultimate members (given past history of early access releases on Game Pass).
Subnautica 2 Has Seen A Rocky Road To Launch
Despite hype for Subnautica 2, the game’s development has been racked with issues. The original series creators left developer Unknown Worlds amidst a shake-up, and then word got out that publisher Krafton may be pushing the game out before it’s ready, all of which resulted in a call from fans to boycott the game.
Subnautica 2 was eventually delayed out of 2025, with the May window for early access the first update we’ve received in some time. And in the background, a lawsuit between Unknown Worlds and publisher Krafton had been ongoing. Understandably, this has led to some fans beeing a bit cautious over the sequel.
