Xbox Game Pass is adding a host of new games in January 2026, and if you’re already a subscriber, you’ll definitely want to check out some of the biggest games, which includes Star Wars Outlaws and one of the most important JRPGs of all time. And if you aren’t a member yet, then you might want to consider it — you’ll save quite a bit of money by subbing and playing these games, rather than trying to purchase them separately.
As confirmed by PureXbox, Game Pass is getting 11 games in January 2026 so far, with some pretty notable AAA games like Resident Evil Village, Star Wars Outlaws, and Little Nightmares (Enhanced Edition). And while all of those games are great additions, there’s another title that I can’t recommend enough.
Xbox Game Pass Is Getting The OG Final Fantasy
The original Final Fantasy is coming to Game Pass Ultimate, Premium, and PC on January 8, 2026. It’ll be playing on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Cloud Gaming. If you haven’t played FF1 before, it’s one of those seminal RPG releases that you just have to check out.
The Pixel Remaster version, although controversial for its launch font (yes, really) and some graphics features, is a good way to play it. This is especially true if you’re used to modern conveniences and don’t want to slog through a 40-year-old RPG on an older system.
I’ve played the original NES version, the PS1 version, and the Pixel Remaster, and honestly, the Pixel Remaster is just fine. If you’re an achievement hunter, then getting all achievements for Final Fantasy 1 isn’t too tough as long as you do a bit of planning before diving in. And because FF1 is an older RPG, you can beat it fairly quickly, though it’s not as short as Dragon Quest 1.
See Where It All Started In FF1
If you’re a Final Fantasy fan and haven’t played FF1 yet, then this is a great chance to do so. Even if you just like RPGs, do yourself a favor and check this one out. It’s cool to see from an historical standpoint how the series got its start, but also what kind of long-running RPG features first debuted here and within the franchise (like its Job System).
