Xbox has long been the pioneer of achievements/trophies on console since they first rolled them out for the Xbox 360 back in 2005. However, a new update to Xbox will result in a huge change for achievements, but it might not exactly be the change that players have been waiting on.
According to a new preview of the Xbox Cloud Gaming dashboard, Xbox achievement pop-ups will be getting a complete visual overhaul for the first time in years (via True Achievements). The new look revamps the achievement pop-up design to be more modernized and sleek, and will display updated trophy icons for normal achievements and updated diamond icons for rare achievements.
Xbox Achievements Are Getting A Refresh
Many fans have been asking for an Xbox achievement refresh for decades, primarily in the hopes that Xbox would roll out an equivalent to PlayStation’s Platinum trophy, which is awarded typically for completing all other trophies for any given game. Xbox doesn’t have this feature for completing all achievements or for earning a complete gamerscore on a game, and it’s among the console’s most highly requested features.
That said, Xbox Achievements are getting an official aesthetic refresh that modernizes the core look of the Achievement Unlocked pop-ups that display at the bottom of your screen when completing an achievement. The update hasn’t gone live yet, but can be previewed already in web browsers. You can also preview what the new pop-ups will look like below:
As you can see, the icons have a new “wreath” design and are colored slightly differently, and have an overall cleaner look. While it’s not necessarily the functional change that players may want for Xbox, it’s at least a little easier on the eyes.
Not Everyone Will Love This Change
The revamp on Xbox achievement pop-ups might not be for everyone, especially those who swear by the current aesthetics, but the updated design is currently only in preview on web browsers anyway. It hasn’t been officially confirmed that the update will be implemented on console, but that’s the underlying assumption at the moment.
