Starfield Reportedly Hits PS5 on April 7; Launch Price Set Lower Than Original Xbox Launch

Starfield has long been rumored to be set for a PlayStation 5 launch, and in the past few months, reports suggested that the latest open-world game from Bethesda would be launching on Sony’s current-generation system sometime in April. Today, we learned there’s a solid chance it will indeed make its debut on the system on April 7, 2026.
In a new report shared today on Dealabs, reliable leaker billbil-kun corroborated the game’s release date, previously revealed by Polish website PPE, whose sources haven’t always been accurate. Following their own investigation, the leaker was able to corroborate not only the release date but also confirm that the game will have a physical edition scheduled to release on the same day. Additionally, the two different editions will launch at a lower price than they did on Xbox Series X|S back in September 2023:
Starfield PS5 – Standard Edition: €49.99 / £44.99
Starfield PS5 – Premium Edition: €69.99 / £59.99
Pre-orders are supposedly starting on March 18, or the evening of March 17, but it’s unknown if these dates will coincide with the official announcement of this new edition. The content of the Premium Edition has also yet to be confirmed, though it is expected to include, at the very least, the Shattered Space expansion
While Starfield’s arrival on PlayStation 5 on April 7 is great news for owners of Sony’s current-generation system, this new release could be good news for Xbox Series X|S and PC players as well. In the past few weeks, it was rumored that a major update introducing significant changes to the experience would launch alongside the PlayStation 5 release.
If this is indeed the case, new content should hit every version of the game in a little over a month. While this may not be enough for Bethesda to change the ultimate results of the challenging “game of expectations” Starfield has lost at launch, the improvements coming with this rumored patch could significantly improve public perception, which remains far from the universally acclaimed status that a game like Skyrim enjoys to this day.
