In the age of subscription services, it often seems like you’ll need a membership to PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass to check out games at no additional cost. However, there are still some free games out there that you can play without a subscription. Most, admittedly, are indies or free demos of upcoming games, but every so often, you can get a free AAA release, which is the case here.
Over on X, the official 2XKO account has shared information regarding the global release of the game on PlayStation and Xbox. After an early access period, the new title from Riot Games is finally headed to consoles, with Season 1 debuting toward the end of January.
2XKO Is Headed To PlayStation And Xbox
2XKO finally arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S with Season 1 on Jan 20–21, 2026. It’s a worldwide release, so you can play with your friends as soon as the season kicks off. 2XKO is also cross-platform with cross-progression, and for those who played in early access, you can keep all your stuff from the EA period.
If you didn’t play the game in early access, you’ll still be able to download the game at no cost when it launches. 2XKO is free-to-play, so you won’t have to purchase it or rely on a subscription service to get the game.
It’s A Completely Free-To-Play Game
2XKO, which was formerly known as Project L, is a multiplayer fighting game using characters from across Riot Games’ League of Legends universe. If you’re already a LoL fan, you’re probably checking it out anyway, but if you’re not, you still may want to give a try to see what the game has to offer.
There have admittedly been a lot of free-to-play games in recent years, with games like Genshin Impact and Fortnite especially blowing up. Others have died out fairly quickly. But 2XKO already has an established fanbase, and from what we’ve seen of the game so far, it’s got a lot of potential, so it already has quite a few things going for it.
