New Minecraft Sequel Revealed As Xbox Game Pass Day-One Release

Minecraft had a lot to show off at the latest Minecraft Live event, and the biggest star of the show was the reveal of a totally new game releasing on Xbox Game Pass this year. While Minecraft is a massive IP with a dizzying array of products and tie-ins, the list of game releases is comparatively modest. In total, the original sandbox experience has been followed by the episodic Minecraft: Story Mode, the discontinued geolocation game Minecraft Earth, the dungeon crawler Minecraft Dungeons, and the action strategy title Minecraft Legends.
Now, Minecraft has revealed Minecraft Dungeons 2, the “next chapter” slated to release in fall 2026. As a Microsoft-owned game, Minecraft Dungeons 2 will officially be available to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC subscribers on the day of its release. The game will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Switch, Switch 2, and PC.
Minecraft Dungeons 2 Lands On Xbox Game Pass This Fall
Not Too Long To Wait
The short and sweet announcement trailer for Minecraft Dungeons 2, available on the official Minecraft YouTube channel, reveals the rise of new threats after the heroes’ success in the first game. Flicking between idyllic shots of villagers living at peace and visions of a burning village, the trailer forebodes the “unspeakable mayhem” that now faces the land.
Details on what to expect from Minecraft Dungeons 2 are currently scarce, but the option to wishlist the game is already available on digital storefronts. The Steam page describes Minecraft Dungeons 2 as an “all-new action RPG adventure” with “never-before-seen locations.” Like the first game, Minecraft Dungeons 2 is co-developed by Minecraft’s Mojang Studios and Double Eleven.
It’s A New Opportunity To Deliver
A Sequel To A Spin-Off
Minecraft Dungeons never received the same acclaim as its sandbox inspiration, releasing to a critical and audience reception that was more fine than great. It’s a solid premise, though, and the sequel has an opportunity to deliver the iterations and innovations necessary to take the formula to the next level.
Of course, Minecraft Dungeons 2 could just as easily be more of the same, and its dungeon-crawling experience will likely be simpler than something like Diablo no matter what. If you loved the first Minecraft Dungeons, the sequel seems like a no-brainer. Otherwise, it might not be as exciting as updates for Minecraft itself, like the Tiny Takeover game drop revealed to start on March 24 via today’s Minecraft Live.
