Xbox Game Pass Subscribers Praise Underrated 2025 Gem: “Good Pure Fun”

Xbox Game Pass has offered up some incredible games lately, including The Witcher 3 last month and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 coming tomorrow. However, there’s a past day-one release that subscribers are praising right now — and urging others to check out while it’s still playable for free.
Over on Reddit, one user started praising South By Midnight, stating: “Up to chapter 7 and I’m having a blast. It’s super linear, with just optional little detours for extra xp, the combat is pretty basic, but the visuals are great, the movement is fun, I’m enjoying the story and the performance is actually pretty incredible.” A lot of folks soon added their own thoughts regarding how great the game is.
For whatever reason, South By Midnight had a sleepy launch, despite getting some positive reviews and being a great game. Now, it looks like Xbox Game Pass members are discovering just how incredible it is. “I really enjoyed it too! Might not have bought it without Game Pass so once again my sub is coming through clutch,” replied one user on Reddit.
“A very enjoyable game I would love to see a sequel,” wrote one commenter. “Absolutely loved this game! It was a great experience with beautiful visuals and gameplay. I’ll definitely play it again,” responded another user.
Almost everyone praised the game’s story and visuals, as well as its soundtrack (especially Benjy’s song), although a few were mixed on the combat system. As the original post says, though, “South of Midnight is good pure fun.”

South of Midnight is an incredible game, blending a Southern Gothic tone with platformer and puzzle-solving gameplay. There are also some truly memorable boss fights that I don’t want to spoil here. ScreenRant’s South of Midnight review praised the story, art direction, and soundtrack. However, just like the comments on Reddit, we felt the combat was a bit tedious.
Still, that shouldn’t detract you from checking this one out. There are enough customizable features that you can probably find a style that works for you, as several Reddit users pointed out in the thread. Since it’s on Game Pass, it’s worth at least trying and seeing for yourself.
