Xbox Game Pass Price Drop Rallied Behind By Gamers

Xbox Game Pass, like almost everything lately, has seen price increases. That hasn’t always made consumers happy, but a new report suggests Xbox’s latest CEO may make Game Pass less expensive. Understandably, subscribers’ reactions have been a bit mixed in terms of who believes it’ll really happen, but pretty much everyone agrees it would be amazing if the rumor turns out to be true.
A report covered by GameSpot states that new Xbox CEO, Asha Sharma, is trying to make Game Pass “more enticing to a broader range of customers.” This would be done by revamping current price models and perhaps introducing “lower-priced tiers.” Over on Reddit, folks weighed in on the possibilities.
Could Xbox Game Pass Come Down In Price?
“Seems like wishful thinking,” reads the top comment on Reddit. And admittedly, a lot of people seem to agree with this sentiment. Game Pass is a moneymaker for Xbox, so lowering costs could backfire. Others speculated the new, lower tiers will offer ads, which also seems like a real possibility.
“So basically, roll back to what it was six months ago,” reads another comment, referencing the controversial price hike from last October, which (among other things) saw Game Pass Ultimate skyrocketing to $30 per month (a 50% increase). It’s certainly possible that Xbox would walk back these changes, especially if the service is losing subscribers because of it.
Xbox Game Pass Users Are (Obviously) Okay With This
The biggest fear for Xbox is seemingly that Game Pass is becoming unsustainable in its current form, which contributed to the changes last year — with more overhauls rumored to be on the way in 2026. If one of these overhauls is lower pricing, then Xbox has already won over its audience, especially those who canceled Ultimate in October.
“Dropped to Essential the moment they announced the Ultimate price hike,” reads one comment on Reddit, with a number of responses in agreement. “I’ll come back when it’s $20ish again,” wrote another user in a different thread.
Others are celebrating the possible price decrease, but aren’t planning on subscribing again anytime soon. “Unsubscribing made me realize how little I use [it],” wrote one user. “Never coming back,” states another.
