A.C. Flora senior becomes first Richland One student to earn esports scholarship

COLUMBIA, S.C. — An A.C. Flora High School senior is making district history after earning an esports scholarship to play at the collegiate level.
Trey Jackson has become the first Richland One student to receive a scholarship to compete in esports, according to district officials.
Jackson will play Rocket League at Lander University. He is a member of A.C. Flora’s esports team, which has won three Rocket League championships since Richland One launched its competitive esports program in February 2025.
“I’m really glad that something that I’ve put a lot of time into is paying off. I can see myself doing more things in the future because of the esports program,” Trey said.
Richland One officials said the esports program is available at all of the district’s high schools.
