This year’s Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, California, is already shaping up to be one to remember. With major announcements on the horizon, including the next generation of console gaming, there’s so much to look forward to and, alternatively, a lot to be let down by. However, it looks like fans aren’t going to be let down by Microsoft’s GDC keynote, titled Building for the Future with Xbox.
The keynote already started strong, with Vice President of Next Generation Jason Ronald taking the stage, giving a breakdown of Xbox’s history as a disruptive console that shook up the gaming industry as a whole. This sentiment was shared with the following console releases, marking Xbox One X’s introduction to 4K gaming that players felt was truly tangible.

Immediately after this, Ronald also revealed that alpha versions of Project Helix will be sent out to developers in 2027. This implies that players will not be able to purchase the console in 2027, meaning it will likely be a late 2028 launch instead.
