Xbox Game Pass has historically been a great way to curate games for people new to the hobby. In addition to new AAA open-world adventures, the service also gets many retro titles, some of which have been forgotten over time.
But this particular JRPG, which the Xbox Wire has confirmed for Xbox Game Pass, has quite the pedigree. It’s a perfect addition for the service, especially given its history.

Although 1987’s original Final Fantasy on the NES gets a lot of recognition, the sequel was initially released exclusively in Japan. In fact, Final Fantasy 2 and 3 weren’t released in the West for many years, and only came to the US in 2003 on the original PlayStation. As a result, many people missed out on Final Fantasy 2 during the NES era, and had to wait decades to experience it for the first time.
