If you were busy over the holidays like I was, then playing shorter games was probably your go-to. But as the year starts up again, and we all get more time on our hands, searching for a sprawling epic that you can sink 100 or more hours into sounds pretty much perfect. This is where Xbox Game Pass comes in, since it currently has a great JRPG you can play for 100+ hours.
Now, even if JRPGs aren’t your typical thing, I would recommend giving this one a shot. The co-developer, Atlus, is already known for its Persona and Shin Megami Tensei series, which have pushed the RPG envelope in various ways. I’ve been surprised by how many people have checked out Persona 5, for example, that wouldn’t have typically played a turn-based JRPG.
Metaphor: ReFantazio Is Free On Xbox Game Pass
This is where Metaphor: ReFantazio comes in. If you have Xbox Game Pass, then you can play it at no additional cost. It’s on Standard, Ultimate, and PC, so no matter your tier, you should be able to check it out for free as long as you have a subscription. And if you don’t have a sub yet, then the cost of Game Pass Standard (or a deal on Game Pass Ultimate), is well worth the time you’ll spend playing Metaphore: ReFantazio.
Developed by Studio Zero and Atlus, and published by SEGA, Metaphor: ReFantazio received critical praise at launch, along with selling 1 million copies, which is nothing to laugh at for a new IP. If you’ve played Atlus games before, then you’ll notice some similarities in gameplay and themes, but Metaphor: Re Fantazio more than stands on its own.
It’ll Keep You Busy For Ages
There’s so much to do in Metaphor: ReFantazio. Even the main story alone will take you 60 to 70 hours to beat, and if you do side content and spend time with the various cast (which is where a lot of the extra time can come into play), then you can easily tack on another 10-20 hours. Looking to get 100% completion? Then prepare to spend over 100 hours.
