A game console is nothing without its games. You can create the most sophisticated piece of tech out there or create a game-changing control gimmick, but it doesn’t mean much of anything if there aren’t good excuses to play with it. While Sony and Microsoft have had some, shall we say, uneven moments in this current console generation, both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X have delivered enough tentpole games to fill a tournament bracket.
Don’t believe us? We created our own to prove it.
This week, we’re pitting the two consoles’ game libraries against one another in friendly competition. In one corner, we have the PS5 fueled by Sony’s reliable lineup of blockbuster, first-party hits. In the other, we have a more experimental run of Series X gems from the past five years that highlights Xbox’s very different approach to gaming in the Game Pass era. Eight games will compete on both sides, leading to a finals matchup to determine which console has the best game of this console generation. (Nevermind the fact that over half of the Series X games competing are on PS5 now!)
So, which one will win? Can Astro Bot go toe-to-toe with the likes of Kratos and Spider-Man? Will Bethesda or Obsidian prove to be the Series X’s MVP studio? And would an underdog Hi-Fi Rush victory make Xbox rue the day it shuttered Tango Gameworks and sold it to Krafton? That’s up to you! Vote now in our first round of polls to pick your favorites, and check back throughout the week to keep up with the road to the finals.
