What Happened: So, Microsoft is starting to make some serious noise about what’s next for Xbox, and it sounds… different.
Xbox President Sarah Bond just did an interview with Mashable and flat-out said the next console is going to be a “very premium, very high-end, curated experience.” Well, this lines up perfectly with all the rumors we’ve been hearing about how the next Xbox might be this weird, new thing that’s half-console, half-gaming PC.
Now, in the interview, she shot down any talk of Microsoft giving up on hardware, so don’t worry, they are still making a box. But she heavily hinted that the whole idea of “console exclusive” games is probably taking a backseat. The new focus sounds like it’s all about playing games everywhere – on your console, on your PC, in the cloud – all through Game Pass.
Given that the current Xbox Series X already got a price hike to $650, hearing her use words like “premium” has everyone buzzing that this new machine could be a $1,000 monster, just like a high-end gaming PC.
Why This Is Important: This is a big deal because it confirms a massive change in how Microsoft is thinking. They’re trying to completely redefine what a “console” even is.
It looks like they want to smash together the best parts of a PC (power, options, Windows) with the best parts of a console (easy to use, great for the living room).
This is all part of their CEO’s big plan to make Xbox a global platform you can get on any device, from a super-powered desktop to a handheld streaming device.
Why Should I Care: Okay, so what does this mean for us, the people who actually play the games?
Well, for one, it means the whole “console war” over who has which exclusive game might finally be dying down. The trade-off is that we’re getting way more flexibility and, hopefully, a ton of performance.
You might be able to do things on your next Xbox that you’ve always needed a PC for, like using mods or having way more customization.
The catch? It’s probably going to cost. A lot. A “premium” console might just be too expensive for a lot of people.

What’s Next: We’ll probably start hearing the real details around the middle of 2025. People in the know are saying it might not even be just one device, but a whole lineup, including handhelds and other hybrid-style systems.
To really get the hype train going, Bond also promised this would be the “largest technical leap ever seen in a hardware generation.” That’s a massive claim to make.
If they actually pull this off, this could be the moment Xbox stops being just a product and becomes a true platform—the moment where PC gaming and console gaming finally just blur into one.
